It is the main category of Brazilian motoring, created in 1979. It started as a single brand, with the support of Chevrolet. Over the years, other brands have entered and exited the category as Mitsubishi, Volkswagen and Peugeot. In 2017, Chevrolet continued as a sponsor. With 30 cars on the grid, the championship is played in 12 rounds, with 10 doubles, the Million Race, and the grand final with a double score, covering six Brazilian states (plus the Federal District) and the international round in Argentina.
